In today’s episode I sit down with the greatest big wave surfer of all the time, Laird Hamilton. Laird is an American big wave surfer and co-inventor of tow-in surfing, the GolfBoard which is like a giant motorized surf board for the golf course, he is an occasional action-sports model and has been featured in the documentary Riding Giants. He is also a bestselling author of the book Force of Nature: Mind, Body, Soul and of course Surfing which has gone on to become the go-to manual for people seeking inspiration to live a healthy lifestyle. He is a contributing editor to the popular men’s lifestyle magazine, Men’s Journal and his passion for others to live happy healthy life is exhibited through his work and through various charities like Race Across America, Pipeline for a Cure for Cystic Fibrosis, Rain Catcher, Muscular Dystrophy.
In this episode Laird and I go through his favorite bio-hacks in the category of nutrition, oxygenation, movement, stress management, sleep. He takes us through what his diet looks like, his sleep routine to optimize both the quality and sleep duration. How taking calculated risks keeps the brain young and increases neuroplasticity. Some of the tools and strategies him and his wife Gabrielle use to teach their children healthy, nutritional and lifestyle strategies that they can take with them through the rest of their lives. I have been a huge fan of Laird for over a decade ever since I saw his ride at Tahiti and sitting down to have this conversation with him was a great honor.
